Lower East Side Preservation Initiative (LESPI) advocates for the preservation of the historic architecture and diverse culture of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, which includes the East Village, LES below Houston St., Chinatown, Little Italy, and the Bowery. We do this by documenting and mapping the area’s historic streetscapes, increasing awareness of the community’s important architecture, history, and culture, and rallying residents, city officials and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to effect the landmark designation of historic districts and individual buildings.
Opportunities to engage with LESPI: Free events
LESPI offers: internships with students who have experience and/or interest in preservation, architecture and the built environment & opportunities to join LESPI’s Board of Directors
