Millennium Film Workshop Operating in pursuit of the notion that film/video is an art form and should be available to all who share this common interest, we uphold an open-door ethos that incorporates affordable workshops and media making facilities; and exhibition opportunities for artists regardless of level of accomplishment, experience, or background. Our programs have made it possible for many people to enter and work in the field while cultivating a famously diverse and inclusive artistic community where challenging works develop and inspire. In addition, Millennium has enabled some of the most accomplished avant-garde filmmakers and performers of the last four decades to experiment in ways that would be inappropriate for mainstream venues that attract larger audiences. In 1991, The Museum of Modern Art paid tribute to Millennium for our 25th Anniversary by presenting a 13-show program of groundbreaking films that had premiered at Millennium over the years, effectively recognizing the organization's significance as a place where social, cultural, and aesthetic boundaries are challenged and broken. PROGRAMS: The Personal Cinema Series features programs of cutting-edge avant-garde, experimental cinema from around the world and provides opportunities for media artists to exhibit and discuss their work through solo shows, group programs and monthly open screenings. Low-cost Equipment Access provides access to screening rooms, film/video editing and optical printing facilities and film/video equipment rental. Hands-on, intimate Workshops in Basic Filmmaking, Digital Video, Optical Printing and Digital Editing, taught by renowned film and video artists. The Millennium Gallery, a space devoted to visual art by and about filmmakers The Millennium Film Journal, a bi-annual publication dedicated to avant-garde cinema theory and practice. |
