Public Art and Community Engagement

FABnyc has a big commitment to community engagement in the Lower East Side. We’ve commissioned over 50 public art projects – many of them murals – but also fabric installations, interactive tours, and street festivals.  We’ve placed artwork on walls, pavements, and construction scaffolding.  Each year, we organize dozens of people to chalk neighborhood sidewalks with history and memories to kick off Lower East Side History Month.  Recent collaborations were with Loisaida Inc on ‘La Lucha Continua’ and with artist Jess X. Snow who did a mural with Immigrant Social Services on Henry Street. In 2018, we’re looking to expand our community engagement work, starting with a new artist residency on 4th Street in our storefront space.
