Founded in 1983, sculptor Emily Clark and painter Jon Millstein opened what would become Works in Progress NYC in a small storefront on the border of the East Village and the Lower East Side. Jon and Emily rapidly became well known for their creative, artistic and high quality silk-screened graphic designs. The business grew quickly and in 1990 Works in Progress moved to the current location in today’s Fourth Arts Block.
The mission of Works in Progress NYC is to train young individuals in the art of graphic design and t-shirt silk screening in a real business environment. Professionals train the interns in all aspects of the silkscreen and graphic design field, from the concept stage through the finished product. Works in Progress have been in business for over 23 years and have had dozens of interns work with them, many of whom work for them today for real salaries and health benefits. Works in Progress continues to deliver creativity, quality workmanship and unparalleled customer service to organizations and clients across the five boroughs and beyond.
