IATI Theater is a New York-based, non-profit theater organization established in 1968, dedicated to theater productions for all audiences in Spanish and English languages. IATI Theater’s mission is to perform and promote contemporary Latino heritage through full productions in theater, music and dance, as well as staged readings and workshops, serving as a bridge between artists and underserved communities in our New York home in the East Village on national and international tours.
For 40 years IATI Theater has brought quality Spanish language theatre to New York City. Since 1999 IATI Theater has broadened its scope and formalized its programs to address the demographic shift of Hispanics in New York communities to serve their specific cultural traditions and interests. Today, IATI’s mission is to expose contemporary Latin American artists of all nationalities to all New Yorkers and nationwide, conscientiously targeting audiences, especially children, in under-served communities. The development of new audiences from recently arrived immigrant groups is an ongoing challenge. IATI brings art into the lives of those in poverty, ethnic and cultural isolation. Through dance, theatre and music, IATI’s artists address contemporary issues of broad human interest and frame them in an appropriate cultural context of powerful social impact to provoke introspection and social awareness.
