Fabric Sculpture with Artist Amanda Browder @ Load OUT!.jpg)
From 12-3PM @ 19 E. 3rd St.
Artist Amanda Browder will be working with FABnyc for the next few months to create an exciting new piece that will cover a building on E. 4th St.
DONATE FABRIC during Load OUT! for Amanda's project. Here are some suggested fabrics that you can donate for the project:
*Cotton, stiff fabrics that are not stretchy (flannel, wool, polyester, etc.)
*Colorful or striking patterns
*Bigger sections than a 1ft square - small scraps are always welcome, but the big stuff is useful.
And then we challenge you to:
Scrapyard Challenge @ Load OUT!
4/6 from 10AM-3PM @ 61 E 4th St., 1st Floor
Scrapyard Challenge is a workshop run by artists Jonah Brucker-Cohen and Katherine Moriwaki where participants build simple electronic projects out of found or discarded "junk."
Participants in this Scrapyard Challenge will have the opportunity to demonstrate and present their creations at the New Museum IDEAS CITY Festival in May. No electronics skills or any experience with technology is necessary to participate in the workshops.
Admission is FREE, but space is Limited. Sign up for the workshop by emailing rsvp@fabnyc.org with "Scrapyard Challenge" in the subject line. *The Scrapyard Challenge workshop is currently at capacity. RSVP if you would like to be placed on the waiting list for this event* |

FABnyc prefers to receive donated goods by appointment on Friday, April 5th from 10AM-6PM. Limited pick up may also be available. We will also accept some donations on Saturday from 11AM to 12PM at 19. E. 3rd Street without an appointment.
All gently used goods will be accepted, as well as costumes, furniture, large appliances, kitchen cabinetry, e-waste, metal desks, flats, or large set pieces. If you can send a list of items with images as much in advance of the drop-off as possible, this will help us find your item a new home.

Further Information on Donating
|
| |
FABnyc will only issue tax-deductable letters to groups requesting letters in advance of their drop-off. All groups donating to Load OUT! will be listed as “donors” to the Load OUT! event on FABnyc’s website. If you wish to give anonymously, please let FABnyc know when you drop off. If you bring an item to drop off that we cannot accept because it endangers our staff or space, we will ask that you take it away. Please contact us in advance if you have questions about an item’s suitability.
Textiles acceptable for drop-off are clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, bedding, linens, hats, handbags, belts, fabric scraps 36”x36” or larger—all of which will be sorted for reuse or recycling through Wearable Collections. For more info click here.
E-waste acceptable for drop-off is computers, monitors, fax machines, copiers, televisions, DVD players, VCRS, radios & stereos, telephones, digital cameras, printers, scanners, keyboards & peripherals, cell phones, remote controls, tape players, answering machines, electric typewriters, game systems, pagers, and batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, etc.). All e-waste collected will be safely and responsibly recycled by Lower East Side Ecology Center. For more info click here.
Items we cannot accept:
All materials must be clean and in immediately reusable condition, requiring little or no repair. We cannot accept beds or bedding, pianos, lead based paint, toxic chemicals, food, broken glass, rusty metal, building materials that have screws, nails or glue still attached, slabs of marble, uncrated glass, rusty or broken furniture, or filing cabinets. No refrigerators, microwaves, or air conditioners will be accepted as well.
Other Commonly Asked Questions:
1) How will I transport my items away?
For small items, see our “How To Be a Good Salvager” info below. For SUV–sized items, FABnyc will have the names and numbers of reliable car services on hand. Please be ready with cash to pay car services.
2) Why are we charging the general public an entrance fee?
FABnyc has no direct funding for this program and is taking on all costs of this event including liability insurance, disposal of what is not taken, staffing, collection, promotion, and partnerships. This small entrance fee will help cover those costs.
3) What happens to items that are not taken away?
FABnyc is partnering with various reuse, recycling, and salvage groups to make sure that anything not taken away by individuals during Load OUT! will be picked up and properly recycled or disposed of later in the week.
How to Be a Good Salvager:
• Be prepared to take away small items. Bring bags, rolling carts, tape, and string to make carrying away your items easier.
• If you are in search of a big item, please either arrange to have transportation for that item available that day or research other options such as ZipCar or car services in the area.
• Keep your mind open. Most items require a little love to be perfect, so as a good salvager use your imagination to see what something could become.
We’d especially like to thank our sponsors and partners for helping make this event possible: Office of Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and the Go Green Lower East Side Initiative, GrownNYC, Lower East Side Ecology Center, Wearable Collections, National Endowment for the Arts, Rockefeller Foundation Cultural Innovation Fund, Con Edison, Eileen Fisher, Downtown Art, and Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company.
