59 East 4th Street, 4th floor
www.wowcafe.org
WOW began in 1980 as an international women’s theatre festival. Any woman and/or trans person is welcome to get involved in any aspect of making theatre. WOW has no Artistic Director nor any centralized control over the works that appear, and Producers have artistic liberty to produce what they desire. ALL are welcome to join us in a circle, similar to the one we meet in during our weekly meetings, for an open Q and A session about creating work within a collective. We will end the session with a few “games” and interactive activities inspired by Theatre of the Oppressed. Saturday, September 21st 6:30-7:30p (join us after for our production of Resilience, a devised piece co-created with WOW Cafe Theatre artists and guests.)

Join us at DMAC for a three floor tour of this historic arts center. After an introduction in the DMAC theater you will go to the second floor where there is a recreation of Gertrude Stein’s Paris Salon with iconic paintings from her collection which Mr. Alasa has recreated. Color light harmony and balance come to life before your eyes. On the third floor is a contemplative installation that was first seen as public art behind in the woods behind Lil Beach, the nude beach on Makena Beach Maui. Spiritual and reflective in nature.

Over the last 40 years, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe has served as a home for groundbreaking works of poetry, music, theater and visual arts. A multicultural and multi-arts institution, the Cafe gives voice to a diverse group of rising poets, actors, filmmakers and musicians. The Cafe champions the use of poetry, jazz, theater, hip-hop and spoken word as means of social empowerment for minority and underprivileged artists. Our community of spectators, artists and students is a reflection of New York City’s diverse population; Allen Ginsberg called the Cafe “the most integrated place on the planet.”
