Donnie isn’t good at gym class, making friends, or avoiding bullies.
To cope with pre-teen life changes and loneliness his imagination runs
wild with monsters, pirates, and talking toilets. A sock puppet play for adults,
Donnie and the Monsters
deals with the issues we develop during childhood
and then cling to or hide from when we grow up.

Van Hove’s fresh vision of this iconic play will be a study of how women of different races and classes contend with male aggression, power, and domination. Elizabeth Marvel, who has memorably collaborated with van Hove at NYTW, will take on the role of Regina Giddens, the strong and determined woman at the center of Hellman’s web of deceit.

The first poetry slam ever in New York City was held at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in 1989, and 20 years later, we've become part of the cultural history of this city, still going strong. With its ever-changing “menu” of plays, Too Much Light... is an attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes—an original concept by Greg Allen and the Neo-Futurists. The audience is fully part of the act, deciding the order that these plays are performed. Each week, these plays shift as ensemble members add new plays to the existing body of work. Now playing 50 weeks a year.
