FABnyc is issuing an open call to artists with a history of working in the area of arts and social justice. FABnyc will commission up to 3 artists for projects in 2020 which address community concerns in the Lower East Side neighborhood. Proposals should feature a strong community engagement element.
Possible issues include physical and cultural displacement, resiliency, small business survival, affordable housing, community health, and access to public space. (For more insight into local demographics and issues of concern, please see Community Board 3’s Statement of Needs
Deadline: August 1, 2019
Proposals will include an artist statement, resume, history of community-based collaborations, description of proposed project and its connection to community concerns in the Lower East Side, and work samples.
Commissions include a $5,000 artist fee and $1,000 budget for materials. FABnyc staff will fully support the project through its implementation and public presentation. All projects will take place in either spring or fall of 2020. Finalists may be asked to participate in an interview. Decisions will be announced in September 2019.
