This Saturday, September 17th, is an exciting day here in the neighborhood! Here’s a shortlist of some of the fun things happening this weekend:
SUSTAIN: 11am-2pm, at Load OUT!, 11 East 3rd Street
SUSTAIN was previously a suite of projects that FAB presented to increase environmental awareness, sustainability, and money-saving greening efforts for member organizations and individual artists in the LES. This fall, we extend Load OUT! activities into a broader day of SUSTAIN, encouraging recycling, reusing, and repurposing in our daily lives.
Load OUT: 11am-2pm, Rod Rodgers & DMAC Lot, 11 East 3rd Street
Once again, FABnyc is hosting Load OUT! – a creative recycling and repurposing riot during which we bring together gently used materials from arts organizations throughout the East Village and LES. Take home costumes, props, and furniture for your next artistic endeavor!
Taste of East Village: 12pm-5pm, East 7th Street
Taste of East Village is an outdoor culinary festival on East 7th Street, between Cooper Square and 2nd Avenue, benefiting the affordable housing preservation and development work, social services, and senior programming of the Cooper Square Committee. They feature dishes from more than 15 of the East Village’s best restaurants and eateries, and live entertainment from local musicians. This is the first year of what they hope will become an annual event, so come celebrate the amazing East Village and Lower East Side community!
Astor Alive from Village Alliance: 1pm-5pm, Astor Place, 8 East 8th Street
The Village Alliance presents the first ever Astor Alive! Festival, free to the public, to celebrate THE NEW ASTOR PLACE, a vibrant cultural district with over two dozen historic theater, dance, music, architecture, and art institutions. The very best Astor Place and Lower East Side theater and dance companies will perform across four stages, embodying important historical themes of the Astor Place.
Zumba Party: 4pm-5:30pm, 70 East 4th Street
The next MONTHLY ZUMBA PARTY! with Lilka & Owen will be on September 17th from 4PM to 5:30PM at Alpha Omega’s Dance Studio.
First Street Green Park: 4pm-7pm, 33 East 1st Street
Join them to celebrate their 2016 Murals, with a guest appearance by CUC/LIVE graffiti! This year’s murals were completed by 14 different artists! Small architecture, in terms of measurements and characteristics, becomes a playful and interactive event, where instability and uncertainty are reasons to celebrate and where sensuality and the relationship between body and space are in constant mutation.
