Small Business Survival in the Lower East Side

This month, our FABRIC feed will revolve around small business survival in the Lower East Side, an issue that has been going on throughout all of NYC. Independent small businesses are struggling with crooked commercial rents, gentrification, difficult city regulations and vanishing customers. As The Lo-Down puts it;

‘One of New York City’s greatest strengths is its uncanny ability to change with the times. But what happens if the latest wave of change wipes out the new and old businesses that give the Lower East Side its distinctive flavor, leaving generic national retailers in their place?’

This month, we will be highlighting some of the small businesses that make this neighborhood so unique and authentic. Also, we will take a look at all the different organizations that are working to help support and sustain these businesses.

Stay tuned!
